So often we feel like we need God and a boyfriend. We think our lives will be complete when we find a godly man and get married. We yearn to be adored.
We won’t admit it, but we think a man can love us better than God can. But God’s love is so complete and perfect that He loves us in every way and meets every need.
He even loves us romantically.
Think about it. We find it so romantic when a man takes us on a walk down the beach and kisses us under the sunset. But God literally created the beach, the sound the waves make when they become one with the sand, the breathtaking tie-dye in the sky. And He does it all to romance us.
He leads you. And never in the wrong direction.
God knows when you’re upset even when you say, “I’m fine.”
He whispers your name.
He thinks you’re stunning with no makeup on, when you’re sick, when you just wake up. Always
He wants to stay up all night and talk to you.
But most importantly, God’s love is never-failing and never-ending. If you’ve been in a relationship, you know what it’s like to want your man to love you well all the time, no matter what, but because of his impatience and insecurities (because of sin), he fails and your expectations are crushed. If you’ve experienced a breakup, you’ve experienced the pain of wondering how love can just end. But God’s love is never-failing and never-ending.
Recently I received a love letter from God. I was reading Psalm 139 during my quiet time, and my heart nearly burst. For the first time ever I realized God loves us romantically. I will walk you through it with some of my commentary, but take time to meditate on it and feel loved and beautiful.
1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
He knows me intimately. He loves my details.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
He understands me. He adores all my little habits. He completes my sentences.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
He touches me tenderly.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
He is always there for me.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
He protects me. He provides for me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
He is courageous.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
He thinks I am perfect.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
He sees beyond my appearance.
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
He plans our dates.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
He is always by my side.
19 If only you, God, would slay the wicked!
Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!
20 They speak of you with evil intent;
your adversaries misuse your name.
21 Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,
and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?
22 I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
23 Search me, God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
24 See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
He leads me.
Don’t get me wrong; I’m not anti-man in any way haha. I believe there is a man that I will marry and love, and we will spend the rest of our lives glorifying our Savior together. And I pray that my hubby is even more in love with Jesus, his Romancer, than he is with me. But I am in no hurry to get married and under no illusion that my life will be more complete or I will be more loved than I already am by my God.
So don’t feel like you need God and a man to love you. You don’t need God + anything. Dive into the intimate relationship God wants to have with you and experience the King of Romance.
This was so beautifully said and so very true.
